Bitterness can enter the heart like a slow-moving venom. It usually enters through the mind with a simple thought: that wasn’t fair to me. It causes rumination. It causes negative thinking. It causes us to start thinking of ways to “make it right” through revenge.
They might be fantasies, never acted upon, but the effect is real.
Some people get the bitterness venom because they suffered abuse. Some people get it by the simple everyday inconveniences of life, such as losing a parking spot.
But no matter why the bitterness comes, like a venom, it needs an antidote.
The antidote is this: give it to God.

When you start feeling the sting of that venom, stop and pray. Here’s the best part: you don’t need to ask God for help dealing with it, He can deal with all of it for you!
Give it to God.
Say, “God, I don’t need this bitterness. I don’t need to carry its weight throughout my day. I need You to carry my burden, because I can’t. Please trade me bitterness for forgiveness, and anger for peace. Take this venom and supply the antidote that I need. I give my bitterness to You. Amen.”
Let it go (don’t keep it!) and feel yourself become lighter and freer. Feel yourself become calm. Enjoy the peace that God provides 😊
Take care and God bless,

I saw a quote once that said “anger is the punishment you give yourself for someone else’s wrongdoing.” It’s so true. Great post!

Bitterness really is an awesome venom and unlike real venom, it unfortunately is not an instant death but a slow and subtle one. I agree that it’s best that one doesn’t hold it inside them and to also give it to God or whichever they believe in. A great message to start the week!

Yes, slow and subtle. It’s very insidious indeed. Thanks so much, have a great week! ✨

Bitterness can poison our souls. As Hebrews 12:15 says-See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.

Good word! Hebrews 12:15 tells us to not let a root of bitterness grow in us. I know it’s cliche but my mom used to say the only different between bitter and better is “i.” So glad to be on this journey with you!

Bitterness is an autoimmune disease. In addition to giving it to God, I’ve discovered that gratitude, leading to joy, is a powerful and effective antidote – for bitterness and many other struggles!

Love this; bitterness definitely is a venom!!! The “Give it to God” mentality is so freeing! 💖 Bitterness feels like an anchor weighing down your heart.

You don’t need to ask God for help dealing with it, he can deal with it all for you. Powerful. Simply place it in His presence and walk away. Don’t carry the weight of the burden and don’t take matters into your own hands. Thanks for sharing.
